Title
Discussion of sewer line extension, Dunbar Road - Mainline Utility Extension (Outside City Sewer)
Body
SUMMARY: A developer is requesting outside city sewer connection along Dunbar Road, south of Brown Elementary, for a proposed 24 duplex development. The existing low pressure sewer line is located approximately 600 feet from the edge of their property. With each duplex being two residential units, the development would result in 48 residential housing units being added to the existing low pressure sewer line. The developer is proposing a 750- gallon septic tank for each unit in the development and the “grey” water would be pumped into the City’s sewer system. The amount of grey water is estimated to be 144,000 gallons a month.
The City Engineering staff has analyzed the existing low-pressure line that runs from Brown Elementary to Spruce Loop. By approving this 48-unit development and taking into consideration the other existing developments that have been approved along this line, there would be no remaining capacity from Brown Elementary to Spruce Loop. The other developments that have been previously approved were existing developments with failing septic systems, not a new proposed development.
If this development is approved for outside City sewer, the Engineering department would need to evaluate and approve the proposed system to ensure that there would be no negative impact to the existing systems.
The Crossville Regional Planning Commission met on January 18, 2024 and voted to not recommend the approval of the mainline sewer extension.
