Title

De-Annexation TMP 101 021.03 - De-Annexation

Body

SUMMARY: The property owner of Tax Map 101 Parcel 021.03 has requested to be de-annexed from the City of Crossville. In the request, it is stated that water service is provided through the Cumberland Plateau Water Authority and no sewer service is available to the property. The owner indicates that the only municipal service received for the payment of property taxes is weekly trash pickup. The request letter is attached.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Staff does not have a formal recommendation regarding de-annexation. The property can be removed from the City without creating a "city island" by keeping the portion of Hyder Ridge Road inside the city limits to provide connectivity to the property north of Parcel 021.03. The City provides additional services to the area, including police, fire, and first responder services. Staff consulted with MTAS regarding de-annexations and has attached their response. In short, the decision to de-annex remains entirely at the discretion of the City Council. Staff is requesting that the Planning Commission provide a recommendation to the City Council regarding this request.

Recommended Action

NECESSARY PLANNING COMMISSION ACTION: Make a recommendation to City Council regarding the de-annexation request.
