Ordinance amending ยง15-613(B) pertaining to handicapped parking

SUMMARY:
Mr. Patrick Taylor brought forth some concerns regarding the enforcement and fines for violation for misuse of handicapped parking spaces. The current municipal code section 15-613 allows for fines of up to $100. Tennessee Code Annotated has been updated and now allows a fine of $200. However, it is a Class B misdemeanor and as a municipality through our Municipal Court, we are only allowed to hear Class C misdemeanor case, which is limited to a $50 fine. Instead of changing the ordinance, we need to implement a parking enforcement program to address the problems. Chief Beaty will be present at the work session to further discuss the issues.
