SUMMARY:
Bids were received on health insurance for 2015. A detailed spreadsheet is attached.
It is recommended that Networks S and P be available through Blue Cross/Blue Shield. It is also recommended that Medicare-eligible employees/spouses not be covered by Blue Cross/Blue Shield, but be provided an insurance allowance of up to $200/month toward the premium costs of the Medicare supplemental policies that are purchased. The supplemental policies will be purchased directly by the employee from an outside vendor.

NECESSARY COUNCIL ACTION: Approve bid of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Tennessee for health insurance for 2015. Approve a policy that Medicare-eligible employees/spouses not be covered by Blue Cross/Blue Shield, but be provided an insurance allowance of up to $200/month toward the premium costs of the Medicare supplemental policies that are purchased.
