Title
Acceptance of $500,000 CDBG grant for sewer collection system improvements and contracts with Community Development Partners for administration and GRW Engineers for engineering

Body
SUMMARY:
The City received notice that Governor Haslam has approved the City's 2013 CDBG application for $500,000 for improvements in the wastewater system.  As approved in the application resolution, Community Development Partners will administer the grant and GRW will provide engineering services.  Contracts for both firms need to be approved.  Funds for these services are included in the grant.
The grant will utilize $500,000 of 2013 CDBG funds along with $176,000 of local funds to make improvements to the sewer collection system.  The proposed improvements will consist of expanding and upgrading the Little Obed pump station and adjoining wastewater collection lines.  Approximately 30% of all City wastewater flows are transported directly to the wastewater treatment plant via the Little Obed pumping station.  The station sits directly adjacent to the Little Obed River.
The Little Obed River and the Obed River were placed on TDEC's 303(d) list of damage or impaired stream due to a pollution problem.  The listing of the Little Obed River was shown as having collection system failure as the cause or pollution source.  The improvements proposed in this application will assist the City in eliminating this problem.
