Discussion and action on Urban & Community Forestry Program Grant

SUMMARY: The Crossville Tree Board is requesting approval to accept grant funds from the Tennessee Urban and Community Forestry Program. The City’s match (actual out of pocket) will be $13,928 to receive $32,000 in grant funds. Proposed budget and project narrative are attached, as well as a letter from Tennessee Department of Agriculture granting approval.
The grant funds would be used to fund an Urban Forester position part time. The Urban Forester would be responsible for the day to day management of the City’s trees, review ground surveys recently completed by UT and implement actions suggested by UT, responsible for training City maintenance crews on proper tree care, technical advisor to The Tree Board and City Council, management of I-40 beautification project being initiated by the Tree Board, and provide educational workshops for residents.
