Discussion and action on land lease with Rifkin Acquisition Partners (Charter Communications)

SUMMARY:
The City has had a long-term lease with Rifkin Acquisition Partners for the property adjacent to the Woodmere Mall water tank for many years. The current lease is expiring and cannot be renewed under that agreement. A new lease has been proposed with a yearly increase of 3% for the rental of the property.
The City Attorney is reviewing the proposed lease and is expected to have a revised lease available at the meeting.
The City's ten-year franchise agreement with Rifkin Acquisition Partners (Charter Communications) for cable services expires in September of this year. However, since that time, the State has provided for a state-wide franchise agreement that the companies can utilize to avoid franchise agreements with individual cities and counties. In July, the City Clerk will notify them of the expiration of the franchise agreement to determine if they will continue with a local agreement or proceed through the State.
