Approval of self-administration of insurance program

SUMMARY: Currently, a local insurance company acts as the City’s agent for the Tennessee Municipal League policies; however, the Human Resources Coordinator does the lion’s share of the program administration. Eliminating the agent would save the City over $47,000 in fees (fees vary as a percentage of each insurance line). The City Manager is requesting to self-administer this program when the agency’s term runs out in July. He is also requesting to give the Human Resources Coordinator a 2.5% pay increase for the added responsibility. Preparations need to begin soon to assure everything is in place to make the change.
